Installing Language IO Article - prerequisites

Before you begin

Contact Language IO Support at support@languageio.com to get an account set up for your company. Language IO will send you a set of API credentials. You will need these credentials to complete the configuration process.

Configuring Salesforce

Before you install Language IO Article Translation, you must configure the following Salesforce settings:

1. In each profile for which you want to install the package installed, go to Administrative Permissions and enable "Manage Salesforce Knowledge".
2. For these profiles, go to "Data Category Visibility" (in Setup > Profiles > {the relevant profile}) and enable visibility of the relevant Data Categories for Knowledge Articles. This is useful to help narrow down the search criteria when users start a translation project.
3. Go to General User Permissions and enable the following permissions:
   • Article Translation - Edit
   • Article Translation - Publish
   • Article Translation - Submit for Translation  
4. In User Details, set each user to be a "Knowledge User".
5. Create a queue for the "Knowledge Article Version" object. This is the object that holds the translated draft articles:
   
6. (Optional) Create another queue to hold the completed translations.
7. Enable multiple languages in Knowledge settings (Setup > Knowledge Settings > Multiple Languages):
   
8. Once you enable all the languages you need, your Language Settings look like this:
   
9. Make sure to move any required language from the “Available Languages” list to the “Displayed Languages” list.
   1. Go to Setup > Language Settings > Displayed Languages.
   2. Move each language you have enabled in your Setup > Knowledge Settings from the “Available Languages” list to the “Displayed Languages” list if not already included.
      
      (Languages in grey are languages that are already currently used by your company, users, or both. They cannot be deactivated.)
   3. Click Save.
   Important: If the “Displayed Languages” list does not include all the Knowledge languages that you intend to translate with Language IO, an “Argument 2 cannot be null” error appears when you load the Language IO Article application:

You must also be ready to provide or use the following information.

What is the name of your knowledge object in Salesforce?

Depending on your org, your knowledge object might be named either "Knowledge Article" or "Knowledge".

How to find this information: 

1. Go to Setup > Object Manager
2. In the quick find box, type 'Knowledge'. Look at the label to check if it is called Knowledge or Knowledge Article:

Which Record Types do you use for your articles?

In Salesforce, each article can have a Record Type associated with it. This record type indicates the kind of information the article contains. Some examples include FAQ, Help, Internal, etc.

How to find this information

1. Go to Setup > Object Manager > {Knowledge} or {Knowledge_Article} > Record Types
2. You only need to check the record types of the articles that you want to translate.

Which fields for each Record Type do you want Language IO to translate?

Language IO needs to know the translatable fields that are associated with each Record Type. For each field, please provide the API name, the data type, and the Record Type.

How to find this information

1. Go to Setup > Object Manager > {Knowledge} or {Knowledge_Article} > Page Layouts 
2. Double check the API names of each field by going to the "Fields & Relationships Tab".

Which XTM instance are you using?

Language IO provides XTM services through its own instance. However, you may prefer to use your own instance of XTM. If this is the case, please provide the credentials so that Language IO can authenticate to your instance through the plugin.
